On This Day...

1942
From the decks of the USS Hornet, Col. Doolittle leads 16 B-25 bombers for a raid on Tokyo. They launch from the maximum range, 650 miles from their target. Essentially unarmed to extend their flying range, the B-25's fly unmolested to Tokyo and drop their bombs, proceeding to China where they land at the very limits of their fuel. Although the bombing does minimal damage physically, the psychological impact is great. For the Americans, this raid symbolizes the first "strike back" at the Japanese and raises American morale substantially. The Japanese, buoyed by their constant success in the Pacific are now forced to contemplate the implications of the war if it is allowed to be carried to Japanese soil. This change in Japanese attitude will affect military decisions in such crucial battles as the battle of Midway and the Coral Sea. For the Americans, the raid signifies that the Japanese are not invulnerable and therefore can ultimately be defeated.

1943
A US naval intelligence effort, code-named "Magic", intercepted and decrypted a message containing specific details regarding Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto's morale-boosting tour, including arrival and departure times and locations, as well as the number and types of planes that would transport and accompany him on the journey. The itinerary revealed that he would be flying from Rabaul to Ballalae Airfield in the Solomon Islands on the morning of 18 April 1943. American P-38s from the 13th Air Force launched from Guadalcanal, fly to Bougainvillea and shoot down Yamamoto's plane and killed him. Yamamoto planned the attack on Pearl Harbor and planned the operation that became the Battle of Midway.

Thank you to everyone who voiced their opinion and thank you for playing ET here at the Chickenbucket.

The question and answer choices for the poll did cause some early confusion which did lead to some people voting YES when they should have been voting NO.

No was the option to kill the server off due to limited/negligible player connections and based on comments alone this should put the No result clearly 5 to 8 points ahead of Yes.

So this means that the server will be closed down soon.

But we are looking at all new gaming options and if enough people get behind a game they want to play a new server will rise from the ashes.

The forum will remain for everyone to keep in touch
